St. Chad’s
Ebor Sound Artists
As part of this year’s Manchester International Festival (MIF), artists working in a variety of sound practices based at Ebor Studio in Littleborough installed new works in St Chad’s Church, Rochdale.
St Chad’s is a stunning local landmark that has been part of the fabric of Rochdale life for over 1000 years with parts of the building dating back as far as 1688. Ebor Studio artists, Alison Cooper, Sophie Cooper, Maryanne Royle, Matthew Quick and Natalie Sharp, created new pieces of sound art which specifically respond to to the building and its rich history.
The artists all come from different artistic disciplines but have responded to the very nature of this site to create a cohesive sound experience for audiences. Exhibited were interactive, self automated sound and musical works placed in and around St. Chad’s for one day only. The pieces were then transported back to Littleborough to be installed at Ebor Studio’s own Gallery FRANK for one week until the 26th July.
In addition, three members of the group did a talk about their work at MIF’s Festival Square event on the 8th July.
