Hattie Speed
Hattie Speed is an award-winning designer maker and creator of the multi-disciplinary project, This Girl Makes
She graduated from Rycotewood Furniture Centre in 2018 with a first-class honours degree in Furniture Design and Make, and has since worked for Ercol Furniture, Oxford University Hospitals (NHS) and Rycotewood Furniture. Her interests are education and outreach, as well as the healing and therapeutic qualities of craft. Having studied the themes of gender representation in the furniture industry and making as a response to grief, Hattie is inspired to use her 6-week Ebor Residency to investigate, 'How can the mediums of performance and furniture making be used, both collaboratively and individually, to explore and represent Elisabeth Kubler-Ross’ theory of the five stages of grief?' Hattie hopes an experimental approach will result in a series of digital or graphical outcomes, as well as at least one developed, 3-dimensional outcome.
