Babs Smith

Babs is a multidisciplinary artist and a Graduate Scholar with the University of Salford Art Collection in conjunction with Castlefield Gallery Manchester. She was Winner of the People’s Choice Award at Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival and was selected for the Neo Print Prize and the Salford Open in 2018. In 2021 she was nominated for a Create Art & Design Award UOS.

Her work is concerned with the translation of visceral human experiences as a means of deepening our understanding of the Anthropocene. She works with both physical and virtual materials to extract something that she knows exists in a sculptural form.

Babs’s work is housed at Salford Museum and UOS Art Collection. She has undertaken a number of public commissions, with permanent exhibits in the National Outdoor Centre North Wales, the Autism and Criminal Justice System Salford and The Data Communications Company Manchester. Much of her practice engages cross disciplinary collaborations with musicians and scientific researchers. She is a member of Para Lab Manchester.
